Tekno RC Success at 2016 US Open!

Tekno RC Success at 2016 US Open!

This weekend the Tekno Team traveled to Phoenix Arizona's Fear Farm for the annual US Open race. Many fast drivers were in attendance, and everyone wanted to get their hands on the purse money. Joe Bornhorst reports from the race:

"Practice day was much like any other. All of our cars were feeling good and after the seeding round, both Joe and Billy were near the top of all three classes. During qualifying all of the top drivers traded qual points around and the times were extremely close. When the dust settled, Billy found himself solidly in the top 5 in all three classes, and Joe ended up with the TQ in Nitro Buggy and top 5 in both Ebuggy and Truggy. Other notable mentions were Shaun Kirkman with solid top 5 results, Mr. Daniel Lewis himself earned a ticket straight into the Truggy Final, and Bill Mason in the Buggy Semis and Truggy Final.

Track layout was fast with a good flow

Main day came and the talk was all about the impending rain. All of the weather apps were saying it was going to hit at a different time, so the race directors were trying to get as far as possible before the rain got there. Our E-buggy main got to run in the dry and went pretty decent. We were all close in speed at the beginning so it was a freight train for the top 5. After things settled in, Joe got into the second spot. Shaun Kirkman and Billy Fischer were both running fast and toward the front of the field but unfortunately had some electronic issues during the race.

A few races later it began to sprinkle and the track started to get slick. For the Truggy main, we knew it was going to be in the wet so we put the softest tires we had on our trucks and went with it as it came. After a long and muddy 30 minute battle, Joe came away with the win and Billy in the 3rd spot!

Next up were the Buggy Semis. Billy and Shaun were in the first one and Joe in the second. With the rain continuing to fall, the track conditions continued to get worse. It was complete survival out there and all of the cars were the same color, brown. Shaun finished the race with a transfer spot to the final and Billy was right outside the transfer spots after some issues in the mud. Mother Nature continued to rain down on us and the track conditions were pretty terrible. Joe, along with many others, chose to sit out the second semi-final race as it just was not worth it out there. The final ended up being canceled and the results were then based on the semi-final times.

Overall, we still had a great weekend with a lot of solid results. Next up will be the Fall Brawl in Myrtle Beach Hope to see you all there with us!

Have a fun and safe Thanksgiving everyone!"
