Yang Lai TQ’s 1:12th Stock at the March Madness Race

Latest race news from Tekin:

The weekend of March12 was scheduled for the March Madness Race in Carrolton Texas. This is the first annual March Madness race held by Mike’s Hobby Shop in conjunctions with Pickles and Peppers Café and ReadytoRunRC.com.

I was scheduled to be running 1/12 Stock, 1/12 Super Stock, and World GT. Practice started Friday morning with a fresh layout for the race. The track was a good mix of tight and technical with a good long straight. I started off with a base setup on my Tekin RS Speedos and got the rhythm of the track and a good gearing/roll out. Then I started my process of logging data and setting rpm ranges to maximize motor toque, timing boost and turbo boost.

“The car could not have been any better all weekend and I had the speed to prove it.”

Heat 1 of stock 1/12 finished with a TQ of 34. I was in heat 2. By the end of the 8min, I put in a 36 lap race with a couple of bobbles. The car could not have been any better all weekend and I had the speed to prove it. I ended up loaning a motor, giving out my gearing and also my Speedo control setup to the second place racer for round 3. But by the end of qualifiers I had TQ by a full lap. In the main event my mind got the better of me and I stuck myself in a board on the first lap and ended up almost a lap down by the time the marshals had retrieved my car. I fought my way back up to second and was pickup up on 1st when I was taken out by a back marker.

Round 1 of superstock 1/12 finished with Mike Dumas in TQ with a comfortable 2 lap lead over the rest of the field. I was in 5th. After 4 rounds of qualifying, Dumas layed down a 40 lap run. I was the only one within a lap of him with a 39 and the rest of the top 6 ran 38. The mains started with Dumas in the lead, but I was on his tail. I was able to hang with him for 5 or so laps and was pulling him in the straights and just as fast in the corners. After a few mental mistakes I got back into the groove and then got into lap traffic and when another lap down. I was starting to pick back up and was still pulling Dumas in the straight staying with him in the corners after 4 mins and then I stuck myself again.

“I saw several drivers swapping out speed controllers for Tekins and even loaned out my spare. I was able to help quite a few guys with Tekin setup, even the competition. I had guys that asked me to turn down the Speedo because they could not handle the speed. . .”

I am happy with my performance in the qualifiers and my Tekins definitely helped put me on pace. I saw several drivers swapping out speed controllers for Tekins and even loaned out my spare. I was able to help quite a few guys with Tekin setup, even the competition. I had guys that asked me to turn down the Speedo because they could not handle the speed. I just laughed at them and told them I have never heard a racer asking for a slower car!

Thanks Team Tekin for the speed.
