Vintage Scale Perfection: 1946 Dodge Power Wagon [READER’S RIDE]

Zach Audet told us plans for this build started the second he first saw Pro-Line’s ’46 Power Wagon body for the first time, and seven months later he had what you see here. Ultra-scale was his top priority, so he hand-made his own chassis out of aluminum bar stock. He used a spare SCX-10 rail as a guide, then cut his own with a jig saw.He custom made his own rear shock mounts, steering rod, transmission mounts, servo mount, inner fender wells, and chassis-mounted floorboards to mount the electronics with dirt shields to hide the wiring. He also made his own rear bumper out of thick steel. He installed leaf springs at all four corners using RC4WD parts, then grabbed their super-strong and scale-looking Yota 2 axles. He used ultra-scale internal spring shocks and King Kong shackles, plus Traxxas drive shafts. The wheels are Axial 8-hole beadlocks wearing Pit Bull Rock Beast 1.9 tires. Zach tells us the most time actually went into the body. He cut out the stock P-L grille and replaced it with mesh and detailed the light buckets. He made his own wipers out of styrene as well as a hood antenna and custom mirrors. He installed side lights and fuel cans on the running boards. He installed a full bed, made the tailgate fully functional and made rear light buckets. In the bed he added a spare tire and a bunch of scale accessories. He even made a CB antenna and gas filler tube. He created the weathered paint job with krylon rattle cans applied to the outside. Running gear consists of an RC4WD 35T motor with an Axial controller, a Spektrum metal gear servo with at Tactic TTX 300 radio. The front bumper is an RC4WD Tough Armor with a Warn winch. You gotta respect Zach’s eye for vintage trucks–especially since he’s only 18 years old!
