Anyone who knows 1/8-scale buggies can easily tick off their expected design features. There’s gonna be an aluminum-plate chassis and aluminum shock towers, a center differential with steel shafts reaching out to front and rear diffs, and steel shafts for the wheels too. Plus a lot more metal in general than a typical 1/10-scale car. You need all that aluminum and steel because 1/8-scale buggies are heavy—but 1/8-scale buggies are heavy because of all that aluminum and steel. Hmm. Then there’s the Arrma Typhon—no, not the 6S version that’s constructed like a “standard” 1/8-scale buggy. We’re talking about the Typhon 3S BLX, which is easily mistaken for the 6S buggy since it’s the same size and similarly styled, but is nearly two pounds lighter because it’s almost all plastic. That weight savings lets the Typhon 3S touch 50mph on just a 3S LiPo, and it cuts costs too—the car is just $300, a savings of $180 over the Typhon 6S.
