This weekend the 2018 ROAR 1/8 Off-Road Electric Nationals were held at the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex in Omaha, NE. The event started on Thursday and finished up on Sunday with all the main events.

Thursday was a controlled practice day by the host track, and on Friday there were two more rounds of ROAR controlled practice. Once Friday’s practice rounds were complete official qualifying begin. Two rounds were held that day and on Saturday the finals four rounds of qualifying were held.

There were three classes to compete in that weekend, 1/8 Electric 4wd Buggy, 1/8 Electric 4wd Truggy, and 4wd Short Course Truck. Each driver’s best three qualifying rounds would be used to determine the final qualifying order.

After qualifying had completed Mugen/JConcepts driver, and current IFMAR 1/10 Off-Road Electric 2wd and 4wd Buggy World Champ, Ryan Maifield held the top qualifying position in 1/8 Electric 4wd Buggy.

Tekno/Pro-Line driver Joe Bornhorst had a solid weekend of qualifying and locked in the overall TQ for both the 1/8 Electric 4wd Truggy and 4wd Short Course Truck classes.

Each lower main ran for seven minutes and the top finishing driver bumped up into the next highest main. The top 10 qualifiers in each class secured a spot in the AAA mains, and the B Main winner would join the grid as the 11th and final qualifier. Each A main also ran for seven minutes and a driver either had to win two out of the three mains to secure the national title, or have the lowest score after all three mains were ran.

At the end of the race day Ryan Maifield would come away with two more national titles in the 1/8 Electric 4wd Buggy and 1/8 Electric 4wd Truggy classes. This is Maifield’s 4th consecutive title in the 1/8 Electric 4wd Buggy class and 5th championship overall.

This was also his 2nd straight championship in the 1/8 Electric 4wd Truggy class too.

In the 4wd Short Course Truck class Bornhorst would take the title after winning in A1 and A2. This is his 1st national title, and also the 1st national title for Tekno in this class too. His win also stops a six year winning streak in this class by TLR.
