JConcepts RocX 2.2″ Crawler Tires

The JConcepts RocX crawler tires are the newest tires offered from JConcepts and are made for 2.2 competition-level rock crawling. They are the first truly directional tires that are marked L and R for proper tread direction. The tires are a sticky green compound and come with peach-colored, medium-density memory foams. They are made for 2.2 in. rims and feature a ribbed interior sidewall support for better side hilling.

I bolted them up to the new JConcepts Tense 2.2 in. rock crawling wheels. They have an aluminum bead lock and an aluminum center cap. The wheels are very sharp and look extremely realistic when matched with the RocX tires.

Once I got these new tires on my comp rig, I headed over to a local indoor course to do some crawling. The tires are a nice sticky compound and hooked up well on vertical climbs. Side hilling was also very stable, and overall, I was very happy with the setup. After going through a couple of battery packs, the tires hooked up well, but there were a couple of climbs they couldn’t make that I’ve made with other tires. I took the tires off the rim and decided to cut a center channel down the center of the memory foam to make the contact patch with the ground softer. That night, I bolted the rims back together and headed back to the same location the next day. I saw a noticeable difference in performance, and cutting the center channel really helped. I was able to make most of the climbs I’ve made with other tires.

At the end of the day, with the proper setup, these tires worked great. I used 4oz. in each front tire and cut a center channel in the memory foam. This setup proved to work very well, and I will definitely be bringing these tires and rims to comps in the future.
