Roar Fuel Off-Road Nationals – Qualifying Update

As the last heats of Q1 approached, it was actually not the top heat that would most occupy the top 5 but heat 22, with Mike Truhe setting the pace for most of the heat but for a last couple of laps bobbles, traffic and small tangles, this allowed Ty Tessmann to sneak in and grab provisional TQ. Heat 23 would see the ‘fastest’ guys take to the track, initially Dakotah Phend promised much, but a few crashes cost him – ending up 8th overall – it could have been better, the pace is there with a 40.5 sec lap, Ryan Maifield inherited the lead on lap 5 and supersonic cruise mode set in. Truggy Q1 TQ Tebo threatened Maifield’s TQ as the laps counted down, but a few mistakes dropped him down the order. It looked set for a Maifield, Tessmann order, but for a last lap heart-in-mouth moment for Maifield as he crashed on the double going up the hill – would Tessmann get it ? NO – Maifield was in fact on his magic 11th lap – having crossed the loop with some time to spare. Game on at the ROAR nats.
