'10 Colonel's Classic Race Report

Driver:  Tim Smith
Event:  2010 Colonel’s Classic
Date:  1-16-2010
Track:  Phil Hurd Raceway, Savannah, GA

The 4th annual Colonel’s Classic was held at Phil Hurd Raceway in Savannah, GA and has quickly become the premier kickoff race in the southeast for each new year.  The 2010 event was held on Jan 16th and Mother Nature wasn’t cooperating throughout the weekend.

Friday’s practice was very nice with dry weather which provided a great look at who had their race face on this weekend.  Only one round of qualifying was completed before the rain came which pushed the remaining qualifier and mains to Sunday.

The Phil Hurd race crew was able to get the track back to running condition very quickly and qualifying resumed on Sunday, Tim Smith was able to put himself into the main qualifying 6th.  At the start of the main Tim was able to put his Xray 808, Jconcepts equipped buggy to the lead on the opening lap.  Around the 10 minute mark Alan Burton was able to make a charge for the lead, but Tim was able to quickly increase his gap to take the win with Shane Ogden in 2nd and Alan Burton finishin in 3rd.

Tim ran the new Jconcepts Subculture tire in blue compound which proved to be the dominate tire of the weekend.
